II.Major Education Objective
Objectives:
Aim of Major of Music Performance is for education of comprehensive and practical personnel to meet the requirement of the society, to master the basic theory, knowledge and technology of music performance, to be able to organize and manage activities, teach and train learners for professional performance group, union of companies and institutes, public art museums, palaces of culture and various schools professionally or as a career.
Prospects of the students five years after graduation:
The students, five years after their graduation, are expected to be high quality moral, of personal accomplishment and international vision, of social responsibility and dedication, to serve the country and society actively, with good communication skills and collaborative spirit.
The students are of competitive advantage in field of relative jobs in music performance, chorus and conductor, piano accompaniment, chamber music and etc.
The students are able to master sound (instrumental) music theory and knowledge, solo or solo playing ability and achievable chorus (playing) and accompaniment ability, and can comprehensively use professional knowledge to engage in music performance or organizational management in relevant government departments, institutions or companies.
The students are able to continuously meet the requirement of the development of music performance, self-renewal of knowledge and ability through continuing education or other lifelong learning channels.
III.Major Requirement and Matrix of Education
Requirement:
The students of the major study basic theory and knowledge of music performance skills, accept cultivation of strict scientific training of music thinking, master good performance capability, stage experience and basic ability to organize and manage music performance activities.
Knowledge and ability of graduation for the students:
3.1 Knowledge of literary and art policies, policies and regulations of the Party and the Country
3.2 Basic theory and knowledge of Music Performance
3.3 Ability of solo or solo playing and chorus
3.4 Ability of independent analysis of the aesthetic rules of music works and audiences, and re-creation in the performance
3.5 Ability of performance skills, teaching, organization and management
3.6 Ability of inheritance of Shanxi folk music culture and military industry culture
3.7 Understanding of the theoretical frontiers, development trends and industry needs of relevant music performances
3.8 Basic requirement of scientific research and professional music performance
3.9 Ability of Innovative thinking and exploratory ability, preliminary mastery of computer and information technology application ability

Curriculum(Appendix 3 according to school years)
V. Core courses:
Training subjects(including Vocal singing skills and instrumental playing skills), basic music theory, solfeggio, harmonics, musical form and analysis of works, Chinese music history, Western music history, Traditional music culture of Shanxi Province, Introduction to art, Theoretical basis of electronic music and computer music, Chorus (Play) and conductor, Piano improvisational accompaniment.
VI. Main Practical Teaching(Including major experiments):
Practice of stage performance, stage performance practice, major practice, graduation practice, and concert.
VII. Requirement of Graduation and Degree
Students who have completed the 143 credits stipulated in this education program, passed all examinations required and met requirements of Regulations on Management of Undergraduate Student Status, North University of China would be granted undergraduate diploma of music performance major.
Students who meet the requirements of graduation and requirements of Regulations of Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of North University of China on Granting of Bachelor's Degree may be awarded Bachelor's Degree of Arts after examination and approval by the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the University.
